“Camp Caravan is a place in motion. Nothing here has stayed the same over these past decades. Each building, each pathway, each square of ground has changed. People have come and left a mark—not a physical mark, but they put something into it. Camp Caravan is more than a physical place, more than the people, more than the group…put together, it has the quality of a sacred space.”

Educational campus for all
Camp Caravan is a place for Work, serving as an educational campus for all ages. From May Day maypole events, to Village School performances, Summer Seminars, and cider-making in the fall, the campus provides ongoing opportunities for connection and community.
Resting on 54 acres in rural New England, Camp Caravan is blessed with a wonderful natural setting. The air is fresh and the forest unspoiled. With its dark night skies, the Milky Way is remarkably visible. Warm summer nights bring fireflies followed by layers of morning birdsong.
The campus is a place of peace and activity, whether occupied during residential seminars, by Village School children for hands-nature exploration, or simply held in nature’s web of life.
Year over year, the Campus continues to evolve and serve as a living whole.
Camp Caravan features
The Main Building as it stands today is the fourth built on the same site since colonial times. Many of the other structures date from the time Camp Caravan was a summer camp for children with special needs. Read a detailed history here.
In 1998, the Millers River Educational Cooperative (MREC), purchased Camp Caravan as the future home for the Village School. That vision was realized in 2018 with the completion of the Village School building.
Many of the structures date from the time when the property was a summer camp for children. With the help of visitors, volunteers, and donors, the buildings have been substantially repaired and upgraded.
Camp Caravan setting
A series of paths connects the natural areas, gardens, and structures. More than half the property is covered in unspoiled pine/oak/maple forest. The forest is home to vast communities of native plants and animals. It is a beloved resource for the Village School community and participants in Camp Caravan life. The community is committed to responsible stewardship of the property.
