"Our work here is to meld a group of people. Everybody in our group is unique. It doesn’t mean we're special—just individuals. Somehow, together we can find a direction. People can find their niche to be who they are. We meet around the table with no gurus, so we have to organize as a group. We had companions, some more experienced some less, but everyone is and was an equal. The group emanates positive energy that affects everything around it. There is a lot of cooperation. Things fall into place. That’s the life blood. It depends on continuing work. The strongest lever is noticing, without self-aggrandizing. Impartial noticing—no judging--that’s it."

Welcome to Camp Caravan
We are a vibrant community working together towards serving the future, drawing on the ideas of G.I. Gurdjieff, J.G. Bennett, other respected teachers, and the group as a whole.
People find us through their questions. Perhaps you have a yearning for “something higher,” a sense of community, meaning-making, or you hunger to know yourself better. These questions are central to the life of the group.
This is a place where the group itself is the leader. As background, please explore our approach to Work, the history of the group, teachers who have influenced us, our location and Camp Caravan’s role as an educational campus.
A need for a place for Work
In 1998, Millers River Educational Cooperative (MREC) purchased Camp Caravan, as the site for the future home of the Village School elementary and preschool, and as a campus well-suited for practical adult education.
The MREC is an educational non-profit entity formed by a Work group who came together in the Boston area in the 1970’s. Many participants had studied at J.G. Bennett’s program at Sherborne House and at Claymont Court in West Virginia with Pierre Elliot, and were hungry to continue working together with a group.
